The Curtatone and Montanara Comprehensive Institute is made up of a central building where the first grade secondary school and the A. Saffi primary school reside, while two more primary school complexes and two kindergartens are located in the hamlets of La Borra and La Rotta and the third kindergarten is in the suburbs of Pontedera. The student population of Pontedera is various from any point of view and there is a significant density of foreign citizens, especially in some districts of the the town centre and in the hamlet of La Rotta.
The presence of foreigners leads to an enrichment and enhancement of cultural confrontation and civil coexistence. |
At the same time, it requires an entrepreneurial effort by the school to create a compensation solidarity fund. The introduction during the year of alloglot children requires first literacy interventions in Italian, a long and complex programming activity, the realization of individualized and monitoring interventions; the presence of foreign pupils involves, especially in childhood and primary education, difficulties in educational, organizational and administrative communications with the relative families due to the lack of resources that allow to avail of an adequate support of cultural mediators. In pursuing its aims, the Institute is inspired by the principles of democracy, equality, acceptance and inclusion, impartiality and regularity of the service, right to choice and open-mindedness towards diversity and different cultures.

A European perspective and culture is widely shared by all the teachers of the Comprehensive Institute, supported also by experiences of mobilities in Europe and Cultural Exchanges with foreign schools (France).
The territorial area belonging to the "Curtatone and Montanara" Comprehensive School is wide: from the town center it extends eastwards to the hamlet of La Rotta and heading west to the hamlets of La Borra and Santa Lucia. |
The institute consists of seven school complexes:
1.three nursery schools: “Mirò” ,Via dell’Olmo and S. Lucia; 2.three primary schools: "Rainbow of Peace", "Saffi" -and "Madonna dei Braccini" 3.a lower secondary school . The total number of pupils is of about 1000. The School "Curtatone e Montanara" guarantees the exercise of the right of students to educational success and in the organization of self in relation to individual characteristics, in accordance with principles of fairness and equal opportunities through the design and implementation of numerous and various activities. |
